In English, if you don't know the pronunciation of the word; you can check the "Kenyon and Knott".
In Taiwanese Mandarin, you can check the Chinese phonetic alphabet.
Taiwanese call it 注音. (zhu-yin)
Therefre, I'm gonna to share something about zhuyin to you.
======================================================
There are 26 alphabets in English, such as A,B,C,D,E...
In Taiwanese Mandarin, there are 37 alphabets.
( By the way, There are several difference between Chinese and Taiwanese Mandarin. Maybe I will show you the differences next time. However, we actually say "I can speak in Chinese." I didn't know this word until I searched "Taiwanese Mandarin" on the internet. But we call Chinese used in Taiwan " 繁體字", Chinese used in China "簡體字". Therefore, the word "Chinese" I use in the following mean "Taiwanese Mandarin".)
The following are the alphabets,
ㄅ ㄆ ㄇ ㄈ
ㄉ ㄊ ㄋ ㄌ
ㄍ ㄎ ㄏ
ㄐ ㄑ ㄒ
ㄓ ㄔ ㄕ ㄖ
ㄗ ㄘ ㄙ
ㄧ ㄨ ㄩ
ㄚ ㄛ ㄜ ㄝ
ㄞ ㄟ ㄠ ㄡ
ㄢ ㄣ ㄤ ㄥ
ㄦ
Moreover, there are 5 tones in Chinese.
The first tone: (nothing)
second: ˊ
third: ˇ
forth: ˋ
The light tone: ˙
Nevertheless, these alphabets and tones won't show on the book, except the text book of elementary school.
We type it, and it will turn into the character instead.
This is the picture of my phone keyboard.
You can see the alphabets on it.
The following picture will ahow you how the character produced.
1.
2.
3.
4.
I think it's interesting, because it's totally different from English.
Do you agree with me?
However, language cannot easily understand just by word.
Therefore, I'm planning to make a video to introduce these.
(But not so fast, maybe after January. When I finished my university entrance exam. SAT)
Hope you like the topic I shared today.
See you next week!
